Profile
My name is Denise James. I have an extensive background as a classically trained, professional dancer under many national ballet and commercial programs. I began my classical training at age 5 with ballet and hold a passion to teach and instruct in the discipline of dance. My performance and instructing experience includes four years with the Golden Girls dance team of Louisiana State University, where I also served as Captain and Choreographer my Junior and Senior years. Also as a member of the national collegiate level instructing team, I traveled the country as a teacher, choreographer and competition judge for the National Dance Association college dance team camps. I went on to have a professional dance career in Los Angeles and New York City. I have taught students of all ages, including as a director of High School dance and drill team programs and in private studios. Now as an Austin resident, I currently serve as the Dance Director at Regents School of Austin.
All classes focus on building an understanding and conditioning of proper body alignment & technical execution with an emphasis on the classical, technical foundation of dance. This will translate to students' flexibility, muscular control and versatility to all styles of dance.
The artistry of dance is based on a beauty and joy of movement. Students will be challenged, but with encouragement and in a nurturing environment.
With a focus on self-discipline, muscular control and poise, all classes will provide opportunities for students to express confidence through the artistry of authentic classical movement.
